Peter Prier & Sons was established in 1965 by the immigrant violin maker Peter Paul Prier, who had been educated at the renowned Mittenwald School of Violin Making under Alois Hornsteiner and had worked for excellent makers and restorers in Germany such as Walter Hamma in Stuttgart. Seven years after opening his own shop in SLC, he founded the Violin Making School of America.
Today the shop is run by Peter Prier's son Paul Prier, who is an experienced bow maker and owner of JonPaul Bows, a business specialised on carbon fiber bows. In his father's shop he is still offering a wide range of instruments, accessories and services for musicians of all grades, including repairs, restorations and rehairs, but also informational resources for violin teachers.

JonPaul Bows is the atelier of Jon Hatch and Paul Prier, brothers-in-law and business partners, who are making bows with high-tech carbon materials on the basis of traditional French bow-making standards.
Paul Prier studied traditional French bow making as an apprentice to Benoit Rolland and Stephane Thomachot before he returned to SLC in order to join his father, Peter Paul Prier, in his store, and just as Peter Paul founded the Violin Making School of America, father and son established the Bow Making School of America.
JonPaul Bows are available from dealers all over the U.S.

Adam Day started his career at the age of 15 attending a week-long violin-making course and later studied his craft with Paul Hart at The Tree's Breath violin-making school. His instruments were highly acclaimed by internationally renowned soloists.

Particularities
Charles W. Liu studied at the Beijing Technical School of Instrument Making and earned his degree of luthier from the Violin Making School of America in 1997. Subsequently he worked at Peter Paul Prier & Sons Violins.
In his SLC and LA ateliers there are three experienced violin makers on staff for repairs and restoration.
R. Alex Wilson

R. Alex Wilson studied violin making at the Violin Making School of America with Charles Woolf and Sanghoon Lee and apprenticed with John Young during his studies. After graduating, he worked for Peter Prier and became Shop Foreman of Prier & Sons Violins. Alex Wilson attended workshops at the Oberlin College and studied music composition/music theory at the Guilford College and ethnomusicology at the University of Chicago.

Particularities
John Young attended the string instrument program at Red Wing Technical College in Minnesota and studied violin making at the Violin School of America in SLC. He won several certificates and medals at the VSA International Violin Competition and works for internationally renowned violinists.
John Paul Moroz

Particularities
John Moroz started off to become a violin maker at 17 with an old textbook and some wood to build his first guitars. Later he studied violin making at the Violin Making School of America under Peter Prier and Chris DeGroot; after graduating he assisted Amos Hargrave at Eric Chapman's NYC atelier, where he became shop foreman. In his SLC studio he specialises on repair and restoration work but offers new violins, violas and cellos as well.

Founded in late 2018, CMC Strings is a full service violin shop that is run by experienced luthiers. Chung Shu Leung, Mike Murray and Qi Cao were educated at the Violin Making School of America and worked for may years in renowned ateliers. At CMC Strings they are offering violins, violas and cellos from beginning to advanced level, carry cases, strings among other accessories, and they conduct a wide range of repair services.
