How can you tell if a bow is good?

Jede Note hinterlässt Spuren

Hello everybody,

About six months ago I got busy with other things and gave up my rental violin, so now I have to go buy myself an instrument of my own. My biggest problem: how can I tell if a bow is any good or not? I used to get a new bow every time I went up to the next size rental violin. One time my teacher said the bow that came with the violin wasn’t any good, and she got me a different one, which really was much better. But what should I look out for? And what’s the minimum I’ll have to spend to get something good? I’d appreciate any tips you might have.
